Kawamasa

  • vegetables
  • fruits

It is said that the store name was changed to "Kawamasa" in 1922, a few years after its establishment as a green grocer in Nishiki Market. This means that the store has been around for a century. They have been providing fresh fruits and vegetables every day to a wide range of customers from famous ryokan and ryotei (traditional Japanese-style restaurants) to the general public. They purchase the day's recommendations from Kyoto's central market and growers every day, carefully discerning the freshness of each item.

“We are also actively purchasing new vegetables other than Kyoto vegetables,” they say. “We hope that more people will incorporate these vegetables into their daily lives through our suggestions on how to use them and how to eat them.”

Kamo eggplant, ebiimo taro, and kuwai (threeleaf arrowhead tuber)—the best produce of the season is lined up.
Every autumn, matsutake mushrooms from Wakayama and chestnuts from Tanba come directly to the store.
